There’s a new heartthrob heading to General Hospital just in time for the summer: Deadline is reporting that newcomer Giovanni Mazza has been cast in the role of Giovanni Cerullo, Brook Lynn’s cousin. Look for Mazza to make his soap debut the week of May 13 when the Bensonhurst Brigade descends on Port Charles for Brook Lynn and Chase’s wedding.

According to Deadline, Giovanni will play the violin at his cousin’s wedding — a talent that the character shares with his portrayer. The teen has been a featured violinist on many television shows and has performed at multiple NBA events. Most recently, he performed the halftime show at the NCAA Women’s Final Four playoff game. (You can check out one of his amazing violin performances below!)

Mazza, who holds dual citizenship in the United States and Italy, is based in Chicago. He began acting professionally at the age of 8 when he landed a two-year Walmart commercial campaign. He also appeared in several Chicago-based independent films before making his television debut in a small role on Nickelodeon’s Bella and the Bulldogs.

The young actor’s other acting credits include a February episode of Chicago Fire and the anthology movie Sunfish (& Other Stories on Green Lake).

Although it’s unclear how long Gio will be sticking around town, we hope that Mazza will stick around town long after the rest of the Cerullos return to Brooklyn! Especially since soap operas typically ramp up storylines among the younger set during summer. Might there be a young lady in Port Charles who catches Gio’s eye? Stay tuned!
