Fans were surprised to find that after eight years, the role of Spencer Cassadine on GENERAL HOSPITAL was recast with fan-favorite Nicolas Bechtel being replaced with Nicholas Alexander Chavez. The new actor made his debut in the July 2 episode and a few days later, on July 5, Bechtel reached out to his numerous fans on social media.
“Spencer suffered third-degree burns at his own birthday party,” he tweeted, “spent time with the spirit of his mother, ran away, was kidnapped, tampered with an election, and broke his legs skiing in the Swiss Alps. It’s been a great run… thank you for all your love and support.”
Bechtel made his television debut in an episode of NBC sudser DAYS OF OUR LIVES in 2012, then joined the cast of GH as Spencer the following year. In 2015, the young star was cast as Lewie Diaz in Disney Channel’s STUCK IN THE MIDDLE, which ran for three seasons. He also made appearances in shows like RED BAND SOCIETY, GIRL MEETS WORLD, GREY’S ANATOMY, and THE PEOPLE V. O.J. SIMPSON: AMERICAN CRIME STORY. Most recently he had a supporting role in the inspirational Jeremy Camp biopic, I Still Believe. Bechtel’s last appearance as Spencer was back in January 2020 when Nikolas and Ava visited him at his boarding school.
Fans were super-supportive online, wishing Bechtel all the best and hoping that one day he can come back to Port Charles to play Spencer again. Brooklyn Rae Silzer, who viewers have also been able to watch grow up on screen as Emma, declared Bechtel, “The best” and Eden McCoy (Josslyn) called him “legend.”
Although there is a new actor playing the role, fans can still enjoy watching Spencer’s latest antics on GH and keep checking back at SoapsInDepth.com for the latest on what Bechtel is up to. Because a talented young actor like that should be very much in demand!
