GH’s Parry Shen Shares a Clip of His Very First TV Appearance!

It’s not even listed on his IMDb page, but GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Parry Shen (Brad) opened up about his very first appearance on television, which was in the CBS Schoolbreak Special My Summer as a Girl, which aired back on Oct. 25, 1994. The show starred Zach Braff as Tony, who as the title would indicate, spent his summer as a girl!

“His character wants a summer job at this fancy resort,” Shen explained in an Instagram post, “and only a female position is available — so he dresses as a female to get the job. Yes, very BOSOM BUDDIES-esque.”

The actor also shared a video clip of his big scene, where you can see Shen being carried around the dance floor by Braff. “In this scene, a guy is falling for ‘Tanya,’ and Zach avoids this clueless fella’s advances by staying busy dancing all night with whoever he can dance with. I was selected to be featured in the final dance because they needed someone light Zach could easily drag around on the dance floor.”

Shen also recalled his co-star giving him quite the complement after they finished the brief scene. “After I collapsed in the take, Zach murmured to me, ‘You might be the funniest thing in the whole show,’” he revealed. High praise coming from the future star of the long-running sitcom SCRUBS!

Shen debuted on GH as scheming lab tech Brad Cooper back in 2013, but before that kicked off his career with appearances in primetime series like BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, BEVERLY HILLS 90210, PARTY OF FIVE, and VERONICA MARS. Wonder why he left “exhausted dancing guy” in My Summer as a Girl off of his resume?
