GENERAL HOSPITAL Star Rebecca Herbst Celebrates Her Silver Anniversary!
Please join us in congratulating Rebecca Herbst on 25 amazing years at GENERAL HOSPITAL! Although she originally auditioned for the part of Sarah Webber, the soap instead created the role of Sarah’s sister, Elizabeth Webber, for her to play. Her first episode aired on Aug. 1, 1997, and naturally, 25 years later to the day, there was some celebrating on set to commemorate her silver anniversary!
“Okay, I haven’t had the chance to peek at everything and I was told there’s more to come,” Herbst tweeted to her fans. “But when I know for sure is that I definitely feel loved. It’s like a party exploded in my dressing room! What a beautiful day.
“And now I’m crying,” the actress admitted in a follow-up tweet. “Happy, overwhelming, grateful tears. You guys seriously spoil me.”
Herbst has played the role ever since April 1997, aside from a brief period in June 2011 when Martha Madison (Belle, DAYS OF OUR LIVES) stepped in while Herbst was on medical leave with viral meningitis. And she has proven so popular in the role that in 2011, when GH announced that Herbst had been let go, the fan outcry reversed that decision and she signed another contract to continue telling Liz’s story.
Naturally, social media flooded with love and praise for Herbst’s accomplishment, some from her co-stars. “Incredible!” cheered Cassandra James (Terry). “Congrats to my amazing scene partner!” Hudson West (Jake) declared; “Congratulations! I love my TV mom so much!” And Eden McCoy (Josslyn) tweeted: “Happy Anniversary, Becky! You’re amazing and inspiring every day and in every way!”
Although the lack of screen time for Herbst recently had some friends worried, the actress herself reassured everyone that she had not been fired, so we can look forward to another 25 years of dramatic, emotional storylines driven by her powerful, Emmy-nominated performances!
