On May 4, 2016, Risa Dorken made her GENERAL HOSPITAL debut as Nurse Amy Driscoll, a spunky, nosy blonde who showed up at the Nurse’s Station. The young lady’s bubbly personality, penchant for gossip, and her name were both reminiscent of another GH nurse — Amy Vining, the longtime character played by the late Shell Kepler — and the halls of the hospital haven’t been the same since! “I am celebrating seven years recurring in Port Charles!” the actress cheered on social media.
Dorken made her debut in scenes with Kirsten Storms’ Maxie, who was working at the hospital at the time. Amy has been a recurring fixture on the soap ever since, keeping everyone apprised of the hospital gossip, being the writer behind the Ask Man Landers advice column, getting her brother, Chet, clean from drugs, and performing at the annual Nurses Ball.
“I admire and appreciate the incredible GH cast, crew, and production team so much,” Dorken continued in her post, sharing how-it-started and how-it’s-going photos of her very first episode and her most recent day on the set. “Nurse Amy has sang, danced, helped her brother, gossiped a whole lot, had an advice column, wrote a book, had many crushes, said goodbye to friends, and of course, lots of nursing duties!”
Being cast in the recurring role was a dream come true for Dorken, who aspired to be a performer from a young age. After graduating from the Saint Paul Conservatory for Performing Arts, a public performing arts high school in Minnesota, Dorken studied her craft at the Musical Theatre Program at Circle in the Square Theatre School in New York City.
“Every time I am asked back is an honor,” the GH actress concluded. “I hoped, trained, and auditioned ever since I was a kid — and I still can’t believe it. Thank you for the opportunity.”
