Roger Howarth Says Goodbye to GENERAL HOSPITAL
When the Friday cliffhanger of GENERAL HOSPITAL was Austin being shot, fans immediately feared the worst. And unfortunately, this is indeed the end of Roger Howarth’s latest run on the soap.
“Three things that I know for sure,” the actor shared on Instagram. “1. Daytime fans are lovely and amazing and supportive and dedicated and I am deeply grateful to each sparkly one of them. 2. I enjoyed my time at GH and wish the cast and crew the best and continued success. It was a pleasure working with you all. 3. Life is amazing. We just don’t ever know what’s gonna happen. How great!”
After small roles on LOVING and GUIDING LIGHT, Howarth became a soap star when he joined the cast of ONE LIFE TO LIVE in his breakout role of Todd Manning. After a stint as Paul Ryan on CBS sudser AS THE WORLD TURNS, Howarth returned to OLTL to reprise his role and even brought Todd over to GH in 2012 after OLTL’s cancelation.
A lawsuit between ABC and Prospect Park over the rights to the OLTL characters for an online reboot forced GH to give Howarth a new role, so he took over the character of Franco Baldwin, previously played by James Franco during a guest appearance. That run lasted until 2021 when Franco was killed off, and Howarth returned shortly thereafter in the newly created role of Austin Gatlin-Holt.
“Turn towards the light,” Howarth concluded his post. “Always. Huge thanks to you all.”
Sadly for fans of the actor, Austin’s time in Port Charles has come to a tragic end. But with talent like Howarth’s, it’s surely only a matter of time before he returns to our screens. So keep checking back here at SoapsInDepth.com for the latest updates on his career!
