Sonya Eddy’s Family Fighting To Get Her Daytime Emmy Award

Tags:

Fans of the late Sonya Eddy were thrilled when the actress won a posthumous Daytime Emmy Award for her work as Epiphany on GENERAL HOSPITAL in the 2023 ceremony. But now it turns out that there is some real-life drama as to who will take custody of the trophy itself.

When Eddy’s name was announced as the winner of the Outstanding Supporting Actress award during the Dec. 15 ceremony, the moment came nearly one year after her Dec. 19, 2022 passing. On hand to accept the honor on her behalf was her friend and producing partner Tyler Ford.

However, now TMZ is reporting that Eddy’s family wants the actress’ Daytime Emmy Award to be in their possession, not Ford’s, and have written to the Television Academy in the hopes of righting this wrong. Eddy’s younger brother, Robbie Eddy, told the outlet that they are not planning to exacerbate the situation by taking legal action against Ford, but they are hoping that he does the right thing and turns the Emmy over to Eddy’s family.

It’s said that the family hopes to have Eddy’s 84-year-old mother display the Emmy Award as she sponsored her daughter’s acting career that spanned film and television with roles on shows like JOAN OF ARCADIA and THOSE WHO CAN’T as well as movies like Nutty Professor II: The Klumps, Barbershop, and Pee-Wee’s Big Holiday.

Eddy first appeared as head nurse Epiphany Johnson on GH back in 2006 and quickly became a fan favorite, even appearing on the primetime spinoff NIGHT SHIFT in 2007. She last appeared on the soap in October 2022 and in March 2023, the actress’ passing was written into the show as Epiphany’s loved ones mourned the character’s death in an emotional memorial episode.
