Steve Burton Teases His GENERAL HOSPITAL Return!

Tags:

Ever since it was confirmed at the end of the GENERAL HOSPITAL primetime anniversary special on Jan. 4 that Steve Burton was coming back to the soap as Jason Morgan, fans have been eagerly scouring the internet for news of when they’ll finally get to see the much-missed character back on screen.

During the Jan. 31 episode of the Daily Drama Podcast that he does with pal and castmate Bradford Anderson (Spinelli), Burton admitted that he still doesn’t know exactly what day viewers should mark on their calendars yet. “I don’t have an exact start date but I start next week on the show,” he revealed. “Which is awesome.”

Given GH’s shooting schedule, if Burton is reporting to the ABC studio for work the week of Feb. 5, fans should look for Jason to return to the screen sometime at the beginning of March. Although it is possible the soap could rush the scenes into episodes airing the final week of February in time to end the sweeps month.

Either way, Burton declared, “I’m ready to get back to work.” Even if he needs to take care of a little something before he goes before the cameras. “I don’t know the day but I know I’ve got to get a haircut because this thing is too high!” the actor laughed. “I gotta do something with it because it’s not looking great.”

Burton first joined the cast of GH back in 1991 as Jason Quartermaine, and after exiting in 2012 (for a run as Dylan McAvoy on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS), the actor returned in 2017 to reprise the fan-favorite role. Unfortunately, in November 2021, Burton had to say goodbye to Port Charles again as he chose not to comply with the Disney/ABC COVID-19 vaccine mandate that was in effect at the time.

In the interim, Burton returned to DAYS OF OUR LIVES to play Harris Michaels, the very first soap role he ever tackled back in 1988. And as soon as he announced the end of his one-year contract with the Peacock soap, fans knew it was only a matter of time before Burton brought Jason back from the dead again. And they’ve already been speculating on how, exactly, Jason will return.

“It was fun to hear people’s ideas [of] comeback stories,” Burton admitted of the various fan theories. “I’m sure a lot of people have their ideas out there. So stay tuned!”
