When General Hospital’s Spencer tragically went overboard into the Seine River back in January, viewers figured the character’s presumed death was a holdover while portrayer Nicholas Chavez was off shooting a Netflix series. Over the past four months, Tabyana Ali has been doing a bang-up job as a grieving Trina mourns her lost love while struggling to move on. However, now that Chavez has confirmed there are no immediate plans for him to return as Spencer, Ali opened up to Soap Opera Digest about the exit of her co-star.

Ali admitted that she will forever be grateful for the support she and Chavez got from the soap’s “Sprina Nation” fans. “It was great creating Sprina together with him,” Ali said of her former screen partner. “I want the best for him and all of his endeavors, and I hope that we will get the chance to work together again someday.”

Pondering the next steps she’d love to see her character take, Ali has a few thoughts in mind. “It might be a long shot, but I really wanted [her] to turn into some cool, edgy, if I can say — excuse my French — badass,” she suggested, adding that she’d love to see her kind-hearted alter ego take a bit of a darker turn. “I want her to just be… just cool, to have another side of her.”

It’s taken less for some other soap opera characters to change course than watching the love of your life seemingly die before your eyes while saving you from a crazed madwoman. “I would like her to have a vendetta story or a revenge story,” Ali mused. “The love of her life is gone, and now she just turned evil a little bit.

“But I don’t know how much that would be possible,” the GH star concluded. “She’s such a kind-hearted person at her core.”
