GENERAL HOSPITAL Alum TK Weaver Shares a Health Update

Tags:

It’s been a rough few weeks for GENERAL HOSPITAL child star TK Weaver (ex-Danny) following a serious bicycle accident, but the resilient kiddo is on the mend! Weaver’s parents first shared the news that their son had injured himself just “being a kid” in an Instagram post on Jan. 10, asking for prayers as he underwent surgery. It’s been about two weeks since the procedure to repair the trauma to his mouth as a result of the bike crash, but Weaver’s parents happily report that everything has been going well! “All the prayers and good thoughts have worked,” wrote his family. “We thank you all. TK is doing great, much better than expected.”

Since the surgery, Weaver has been closely monitored by a plastic surgeon and oral surgeon, as his mouth took the bulk of the hit in the car accident. Due to the nature of his injury, Weaver wasn’t able to wear a mask for social distancing when he went out, so he’d been “locked up except for his doctor appointments” ever since being released from the Children’s Hospital of Orange County. “Now he is able to wear his mask again, and nothing is really hurting him or bothering him too much anymore,” wrote his parents.

Thankfully, Weaver didn’t break any bones when he fell. But because his teeth and jaw were impacted, he’s only been able to eat soft foods and can only chew on the right side of his mouth. The next step in his recovery is wearing a retainer to fix his teeth and hopefully move them back into place. “The damage was on the left side mostly, and inside his mouth,” continued the young actor’s parents, adding that additional X-rays will be done in the next few weeks to check his jaw. “So far, so good with fixing his teeth. He can’t play sports for at least 4-6 more weeks. It may take 6 months to a year for the main scar to fade… it looks so much better already.”

Despite the serious injury to his face, Weaver seems to be in good spirits! “He thinks [the scar is] kind of a cool battle wound,” wrote his mom and dad. “It’s like a red X, but it’s only been just over two weeks. We are so thankful for his team of doctors, dentists, and plastic surgeons at CHOC Medical Clinic at Children’s Hospital of Orange County in Santa Ana. Every day, he gets better and is healing faster than anyone thought he would.”

“Thank you all so much for everything,” concluded Weaver’s family. “And all of you acting friends and fan friends who have been reaching out and occasionally checking in, he appreciates it. Honestly, he’s doing great and so much better than ever expected. Thank you!”

Weaver was the first child actor to play the role of Sam and Jason’s son on GH following a series of twins who appeared as Danny as an infant and toddler. He debuted on the soap in May 2016, but three years later, the role was recast with Porter Fasullo, who continues to play the character at this time.

We’ll be sure to keep you updated on Weaver’s progress as his parents share additional news. In the meantime, please join us in sending the young star continued prayers for a speedy recovery!
