Trina Recast on GENERAL HOSPITAL!

Tags:

Trina is about to get another new look! Sydney Mikayla is leaving GENERAL HOSPITAL where she has been playing Trina Robinson since February 2019. Although she began attending UCLA in the fall of 2021, the actress had previously said that the soap was supportive of working with her school schedule.

Unfortunately, GH executive producer Frank Valentini has confirmed to Soap Opera Digest that the role is being recast, and revealed that it was Mikayla’s choice to step down. “Sydney asked to leave in order to focus on college,” he explained. “We love her and are sad to see her go, but of course support her decision and wish her the best.”

Mikayla’s last episode is currently scheduled to air on Wednesday, March 17, and the role is being recast. Actress Tabyana Ali will make her daytime debut later that month. Viewers might recognize her from her recent role in the Shudder original movie Horror Noire, or appearances in primetime series like THE BIG SHOW SHOW or NEW GIRL. Those with kids might even recognize her voice from playing Leelee on the animated series SHIMMER AND SHINE.

The role of Trina was originally played by actress Tiana Le when the character made her first appearance in 2017 for a few episodes and then again in 2018. Mikayla took over in 2019 and became a fan-favorite as Trina navigated Port Charles’ teen scene, a crush on Cameron, a friendship with Josslyn, and most recently, a budding (and complicated) romance with Spencer.

“I have loved working on GH,” Mikayla told Digest, “but I feel like this is the right time to dive in and enjoy my college experience to the fullest. Thank you to Frank and the entire team for believing in me and giving me this wonderful opportunity. I will miss working with everyone every day but I am excited to see what is to come for the show.”
