Tristan Rogers Opens up About Robert and Holly’s Emotional Reunion on GH
It’s the moment fans have been waiting for for years! Holly is finally back on GENERAL HOSPITAL! Ever since the fall of 2020 when viewers learned that Holly was being held captive, they’ve been eagerly anticipating her return to the soap, but it turned out to be a difficult journey as portrayer Emma Samms has been dealing with the serious effects of Long COVID.
“I didn’t think it would happen, given her health,” Tristan Rogers (Robert) admitted in a recent issue of Soap Opera Digest. “I thought, ‘There’s just too many things against it.’ I said to Frank [Valentini, GH’s executive producer], ‘We’ve got to come up with some resolution to this.’ And he just kind of looked at me and I thought that was it, that it would just stay as it was and the fans would always be holding out hope in the meantime.”
Thankfully, Samms eventually felt well enough to make a short-term return to GH and reprise her role of Holly Sutton. Her first appearance was at the cliffhanger of the Oct. 20 episode as Robert was stunned to be summoned to the Quartermaine estate and come face to face with the woman he thought he’d lost.
“I had to sit back and think to myself, ‘How do I do this? How do I make this real?’” Rogers said of that emotional reunion. “The shock and delight of seeing her, how do I roll that all into one moment? That was uppermost in my mind when we shot the scene.”
Thankfully, for fans who have been waiting since 2020 for this story to get back in gear, the actor assured that the mystery of who was holding Holly prisoner will “unfold very quickly.” And he promised that it will delight longtime GH fans. “I think it’s going to keep everyone on their toes,” Rogers teased. “And I think one of the things in this story that the public is really going to relish is the fact that it is all veterans, all familiar faces.”
