Tyler Christopher Reveals the Role He Considers “My Best Work”

Tags:

During his career, Tyler Christopher has been nominated and won multiple awards, including Daytime Emmy Award nods for his work as Nikolas on GENERAL HOSPITAL and Stefan on DAYS OF OUR LIVES (he took home the trophy for Lead Actor on GH in 2016), but neither those soaps nor the movies he’s appeared in are what he actually considers to be his best work as an actor.

“The two questions I get the most as an actor are ‘What was your favorite role?’ and ‘What was your best work?’” Christopher shared on Instagram. “My favorite role changes with my mood but I believe my best work was neither done on a daytime TV show or movie screen but in the theater. I ran into my good friend Jamison yesterday and it brought back a lot of memories and pride about the production we did of Bent.”

A play written by Martin Sherman, Bent tells the story of Max, a gay man in Berlin during World War II who finds himself arrested by the Gestapo and put in a concentration camp. Fearing his fate if he is labeled a homosexual, Max lies to the guards that he is Jewish. But in the camp, he befriends Horst, who persuades Max to acknowledge who he truly is as the two men fall in love though they can never be together.

Bent first premiered back in 1979 at the Royal Court Theatre in London and starred Ian McKellen as Max. Over the years, the play has been performed numerous times across the globe. Christopher played Max in the 2007 production mounted by Theatre 68 in Los Angeles. His co-star as Horst was Jamison Jones, who at the time had just wrapped a four-year stint on the primetime series 24. Although Jones did also appear on GH as William in 2004-05 and returned in 2020 to take over the role of Dr. Kirk! He can currently be seen playing Jesse Gaines on CBS sudser THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS.

“Would sure like to see that show brought back to a theatre,” Christopher concluded. “I believe it was my best work.” And friend and former GH castmate Rick Hearst (ex-Ric) agreed, declaring: “Truthfully, some of your finest work.” And when one commenter suggested he and Jamison reprise these roles on the stage again, he quickly responded: “In a heartbeat.”

Now that Christopher has returned to California, we’ll just have to wait and see where his career takes him next. So keep checking back here at SoapsInDepth.com for the latest updates!
