Vanessa Marcil Thanks Maurice Benard for Helping Heal Her Broken Heart

Soap opera relationships are full of ups and downs just like in real life. And Vanessa Marcil credits real-life friend Maurice Benard with helping her work through some difficult times while they were playing reel-life couple Brenda and Sonny on GENERAL HOSPITAL. “Working with Maurice helped me to heal my broken heart over my father not loving me,” she shared on Instagram along with a childhood pic of her and her dad. “Hours and hours of free therapy I was gifted through the Brenda and Sonny love story. Along with three hours of traditional therapy every week for the last 30-plus years, and that part wasn’t free!”

Marcil often gets philisophical on social media, hoping to help her fans through their own struggles as Benard once helped her with hers. Although as she has mentioned, professional therapy also helped her immensely. “Is it worth it?” she mused. “It all depends on what you want out of life. I want change. Live for yourself. Follow your dreams. That is the best gift you can give your children in my humble opinion, because they will then copy you and go after their dreams one day. What do you want out of this life?”

It’s wonderful to know that even as Brenda and Sonny were experiencing all kinds of emotional ups and downs on GH, behind the scenes Marcil and Benard were becoming fast friends and working together to get better. It’s an inspiration to us all!
