Who is Haunting Elizabeth on GENERAL HOSPITAL?
Nearly a year after GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Franco died in the arms of his beloved wife, Elizabeth, the widowed nurse seems to finally be ready to move on and find love again. Finn, the handsome suitor waiting in the wings to sweep Liz off her feet, was once engaged to Elizabeth’s half-sister, Hayden, but that is hardly an issue for GH’s favorite nurse. No, the obstacle in the way of Liz pursuing a new relationship is actually the ghost of Franco!
“Just as Liz has discovered that there may be a life to explore with Finn, there have been these incidents that have come up in her life,” the soap’s co-headwriter, Chris Van Etten, told Soaps.com. “Things that seem to be reminiscent of Franco.”
The mysterious happenings began when Elizabeth finally removed her wedding band on New Year’s Eve, admitting to herself that she was looking forward to going on a date with Finn. She’d placed the ring in a kitchen drawer, only to later see the ring fall out of her locker at the hospital while she was preparing for her first date with Finn. Liz and Finn thought that perhaps one of her sons had tried to return her ring, but they couldn’t as easily explain things away after Franco’s art studio was destroyed in a fire a few weeks later. While searching for her spare keys to the studio, Liz found them in the wooden box where she keeps them — and was shocked to see her wedding ring there as well! The most recent mysterious Franco-related event to rattle Elizabeth was discovering that the dress she’d worn when she married her late husband had been shredded!
“It seems as though there is some echo or shroud of Franco that has popped up,” added Van Etten. “This is what she’ll be dealing with moving forward. Why are these things showing up in her life? Who or what is responsible for these events, and what does the timing have to do with it? What is it about this time in her life that is causing these reverberations of Franco to be felt not only by her but by those closest to her?”
GH fans have plenty of theories (as they always do!) as to who might be behind Elizabeth’s haunting. Some speculate that the reason why Liz has seemed so tired lately is that she’s sleepwalking, or that she’d suffered some sort of mental break as a result of the trauma from losing Franco, and is doing these things herself. Another popular opinion is that Franco somehow faked his death, or that his mom, Heather Webber, is the one gaslighting Liz. Maybe Hayden hates the idea of her sister and ex-fiancé together and is trying to scare Liz off. Even Esme’s name has been bandied about as a way for the young vixen to get closer to Cameron.
