The calendar says May, but GENERAL HOSPITAL star Cameron Mathison (Drew) is in holiday mode at the moment, filming an upcoming Christmas film with actress Jill Wagner for cable network GAC Family! Production began this week on The Christmas Farm in Ontario, Canada, which means that Mathison is taking some time off from GH while working on the romantic movie! “This is such a sweet movie!” he enthused on Instagram. “I think you’re going to love it!”
In The Christmas Farm, Wagner stars as Janie, a rising marketing exec in New York who returns to her hometown when her great-uncle, Randall, passes away and she inherits the family homestead, Janie’s childhood home. At first, Janie isn’t sure what to do with the property since her life and career are in The Big Apple, but she agrees to honor her uncle’s final request that she hosts the town’s annual Winter Wonderland festival at the farm. Enter Mathison’s character, Dylan, who was Randall’s farmhand and will help Janie bring the event, held in the farm’s barn, to life. Janie has a boyfriend anxiously waiting for her back in Manhattan, but the more time she spends in her hometown with Dylan, she unexpectedly feels an emotional tug about living life in a more authentic, meaningful way.
On May 11, Mathison shared a selfie of himself and Wagner outside of a very festive-looking house all decked out in decorations and coated in fake snow (check the sheets on the front yard and the green grass visible in the back!) “Christmas wonderland up here in Canada,” he captioned the pic.
The previous day, when the actors were back on the set of The Christmas Farm, Wagner (who is also listed as an executive producer on the movie) shared several behind-the-scenes videos in her Instagram stories. In addition to a few clips of her filming a scene where she is driving a car, Wagner showed her followers a house covered in fake snow as she and Mathison sat in the cab of a pickup truck about to film a scene set in December — on a sunny May day with a temperature in the mid-70s! “It looks like it’s cold out here, doesn’t it, Cameron?” Wagner asked her co-star. “It’s 90 degrees in this truck,” Mathison laughed. Both actors were dressed in winter coats, with Wagner adding that she had on a cashmere sweater. “We have to keep the [truck] doors open,” she laughed as Mathison pretended he was passing out from the heat. “I can’t breathe!” he joked.
The Christmas Farm is slated to premiere during GAC’s “Great American Christmas” celebration, which kicks off on the channel in late October. As for his time away from GH, film shoots for these made-for-TV movies typically last three or four weeks, and the soap tends to work with actors on outside projects — like it recently did when Lisa LoCicero (Olivia) shot a movie in Montana.
