Ever since it was announced that former ALL MY CHILDREN stars Kelly Ripa (Hayley) and Mark Consuelos (Mateo) were planning to reboot the much-beloved daytime drama as a series called PINE VALLEY, fans have been wondering if the primetime version would include Susan Lucci’s Erica Kane. After all, what is Pine Valley without its most well-known diva?
Well, if all goes as planned, the legendary actress who brought that iconic soap opera character to life for over 40 years will in fact be a part of the potential ABC show! “They tell me yes, and I told them, ‘Yes, I’m interested,’” Lucci confirmed during a recent interview with Behind The Velvet Rope.
With Ripa and Consuelos attached as executive producers, PINE VALLEY would focus on a young journalist with a mysterious agenda trying to expose the town’s dark and murderous history, only to become wrapped up in a feud between the Kane and Santos families. “I’m somebody who doesn’t like to talk about something until I’m actually on the set doing it,” confessed Lucci, adding that she is intrigued by the concept of the reboot. “That sounds really interesting.”
The plan to mix a new generation of characters on the show with those that longtime viewers of the beloved soap are already familiar with is appealing, adds the Daytime Emmy winner. “It’s very, very cleverly done,” raved Lucci. “It takes into account the characters who the audience loves and puts some new characters in there that keeps it very fresh. So, I’m excited to see if that really goes.”
Right now, the AMC reboot is still a work in progress, but SoapsInDepth.com will continue to update readers as more news is announced. In the meantime, you can watch Lucci’s full chat with Behind The Velvet Rope below, where she also divulged which young actress she thinks would be a great choice to play a younger version of herself, and shared a hilarious memory from Erica’s modeling days on the soap!
