AMC’s Alicia Minshew Dishes on Her New Indie Film
The writers’ and actors’ strikes may have put a halt to many television shows and big-studio movies, but some projects are still being produced thanks to interim agreements from SAG-AFTRA. One of those is Love in Storytown, an indie movie that former ALL MY CHILDREN sweetheart Alicia Minshew (Kendall) is currently filming in Jonesborough, TN.
From Gemelli Films, Love in Storytown is a romantic comedy that follows Mandy, a single mom played by 7th HEAVEN star Beverley Mitchell, who leaves the military and relocates to a small town known for its storytelling, hoping for a more settled life with her young son. Soon after moving, Mandy reconnects with a childhood friend who, as a wandering storyteller, is the worst choice for a mom looking for stability to fall in love with! The movie is helmed by an all-female production team including director and producer Candice Cain and producer/screenwriter Betty Sullivan.
According to Soap Central, Minshew’s gratitude for the new project is twofold. “I am grateful for truly independent productions like Love in Storytown during the strike,” said the actress, who appears in the film as a character named Bonnie. “I have recently started producing and writing myself and really appreciate all of the support I have gotten from other females in this industry. I think Candice and Betty will be a dream team.”
After playing Erica Kane’s daughter for over a decade on AMC, Minshew has spent the last dozen years since the soap ended in 2011 dabbling in different roles. “I found the process really fun and creative, not as intense,” she shared. “I have enjoyed sinking my teeth into a new character with each job. I went from playing a soap diva for ten years to playing a southern belle, a mobster’s wife, and a doctor, to name a few. That, creatively, has been really fun for me.”
After production wraps in Tennessee, filming will continue in New York. Love in Storytown — which also stars Jason Frederick and William Ragsdale — is expected to be released next spring.
