Cady McClain Shares Her Favorite Photo of Her and Michael E. Knight
Maybe it’s just because Walt Willey is reprising his role of Jackson Montgomery on GENERAL HOSPITAL, which is part of a storyline surrounding Michael E. Knight’s character of Martin, but we’ve been feeling awful nostalgic for ALL MY CHILDREN lately. So you can imagine our delight when Cady McClain shared a throwback photo of herself and Knight from back when they were both starring as Dixie and Tad on the much-missed ABC soap!
“I may have posted this before so please forgive,” McClain captioned the snap, “but this is my favorite photo of me and Mike. We worked so very hard, and we look like it. And we were (and are) very good friends. We protected each other and fought for each other. It was raunchy and funny and wild.
“This photo was taken outside the studio that used to be on 67th and Columbus,” she added.” Now it’s a giant apartment complex with an Equinox.”
While McClain didn’t indicate exactly when this photo was taken, it had to be before 1990 because that’s when AMC moved from the West 67th St. TV18 studio to ABC’s Studio TV23 at 320 West 66th St. in New York City. Starting in 2010, the soap relocated to the West Coast, filming at the Andrita Studios in Los Angeles.
“I remember at the time telling someone I secretly wished I was going to Juilliard,” McClain admitted. “They said, ‘Oh honey, they all secretly wish they were you.’ Took me a while to wrap my head around that one.
“I’m grateful for these days,” she concluded. “Grateful for Mike. My pal. I think I was 19 years old. He was good to me.”
McClain recently wrapped up a run in the one-woman show Shirley Valentine at the Cape May Stage, and now we find ourselves wishing that GH could bring the Daytime Emmy Award winner to Port Charles even for just a brief appearance so she and Knight could share the screen again. Maybe she could play Martin’s fabulously wealthy ex-wife!
