Vincent Irizarry Reunites With AMC Co-Star Esta TerBlanche!

You know how after a soap opera is canceled, you sometimes find yourself imagining what might be happening on the show now? Like what might ALL MY CHILDREN’s devious Dr. David Hayward be up to these days? Who would he be romancing? Who would he be scheming against?

Well, until we get that long-promised AMC reboot, PINE VALLEY, we’re just going to have to use our imaginations. However, David’s portrayer, Vincent Irizarry, shared a pic of himself enjoying a party with former co-star Esta TerBlanche, whose character, Gillian Andrassy, is sadly deceased. But she looks pretty good so she must be an angel!

“What a beautiful surprise running into dear Esta TerBlanche (sweet Gillian, whom Dr. David Hayward deviously corrupted on AMC) after over 15 years at THE BAY pre-Emmy party celebrating the show’s Best Show nomination,” Irizarry captioned the photo. “Definitely one of the oh, so special moments of the evening.”

Irizarry has appeared on multiple soaps on all three networks during his career, but is best known to ABC Daytime fans for playing David on AMC from 1997 until the show’s final episode in 2011 (with a short break in 2007 to play another David on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS). He even returned in 2013 for the sadly short-lived online revival of AMC. In 2009, Irizarry won Outstanding Supporting Actor for his work, tying with AMC alum Jeff Branson, who was playing Shayne on GUIDING LIGHT at the time.

Born in South Africa, TerBlanche starred for years on the South African drama series EGOLI: PLACE OF GOLD before moving to the United States in 1995. She was cast as Gillian on AMC in 1997, but the character was killed off in 2001 when the actress wanted to return to her home country. The actress did return to reprise the role in 2011 as Gillian’s ghost made a special ghostly appearance during AMC’s final episodes on ABC.

When AMC came to an end, it was revealed that David had brought beloved characters like Dixie, Greenlee, Maria, Zach, and Stuart back from the dead. So looking at the picture above, we’d like to imagine the mad doctor eventually did the same for Gillian, somehow. Hey, in soaps, anything is possible!
