CBS Launching New Soap THE GATES in January!

It’s officially official! Soap fans are getting a new daytime drama to watch! CBS has just announced the series order for THE GATES to premiere on the network’s daytime schedule in January 2025!

Fans were excited when the news broke early in March that CBS and the NAACP were developing a brand new daytime soap along with Procter & Gamble. THE GATES will center around a wealthy Black family who live in a posh, gated community. Emmy-winning writer Michele Val Jean, who has penned scripts for GENERAL HOSPITAL and THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL, will be the writer and showrunner.

Still, given that the last daytime soap to premiere on any network was PASSIONS back in 1999, fans were understandably wary. However, CBS president and CEO George Cheeks promised “It’s super real.” The exec also added additional details like it was in “accelerated development” and being developed as an hour-long show.

When CBS confirmed the rumors that THE TALK was being canceled, they revealed that the daytime talk show (which premiered in 2010, taking over the time slot from the long-running AS THE WORLD TURNS after its cancelation) would run until December 2024.

While it appears that THE GATES will be taking over the time slot vacated by THE TALK at the end of the year, CBS has still not confirmed any specific time period, premiere date, or any other details about the soap.
