Heather Tom Returns to THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS — to Direct!
They say you can’t go home again, but Heather Tom (Katie, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL) has returned to THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS! No, not to play Victoria again — this time, she’s directing! “So grateful for the opportunity!” the actress enthused on Instagram as she shared a sneak peek of the script to her episode. “Thanks especially to Angelica McDaniel, CBS Daytime, Tony Morino, Y&R, Sony Pictures Television, and all the actors I had the pleasure to work with. Such an extraordinary amount of talented people! It was so emotional for me!”
Longtime Y&R fans remember Tom as Victoria Newman, a role she played from 1990 until 2003, earning nine Daytime Emmy Award nominations and taking home the trophy twice for Outstanding Younger Actress. She then went on to play Kelly Cramer on ABC sudser ONE LIFE TO LIVE, earning a couple more Emmy noms in the process. In 2007, she joined the cast of B&B as Katie Logan, racking up three more Emmy Awards over the years.
In 2016, Tom moved behind the camera, trying her hand at directing some episodes of B&B. She has also helmed the short films Serenity, Bigfoot’s Love Slave, and Blink. She has directed over a dozen episodes of B&B, but this is the first time that she’s worked on sister soap Y&R, which reunited her with many of her former castmates… although this time they all had to follow her orders! And it looks like Tom had an absolute blast, sharing a selfie from the set with old friends Christian LeBlanc (Michael), Jess Walton (Jill), and Beth Maitland (Traci), all of whom appeared in the episode that they taped on June 13.
Although Tom’s episode was taped in the middle of June, because of the shooting schedule, it won’t actually air until Wednesday, July 17. So make sure you set your DVR’s to watch! (Don’t worry — we’ll be sure to remind you before the show is on!) And for more B&B and Y&R news, keep reading the CBS edition of Soaps In Depth magazine!
