Soap Star Kevin Dobson Dead at 77
Veteran actor Kevin Dobson has died at the age of 77 on Sept. 6 of a heart attack. Although best known for playing Mack on primetime sudser KNOTS LANDING, he made his debut in daytime and appeared on a few different soap operas during his career.
Dobson launched his career with a series of uncredited roles on NBC soap THE DOCTORS from 1969-71then guest-starred on primetime series like THE MOD SQUAD, EMERGENCY!, and CANNON. And for five seasons, he starred opposite Telly Savalas as Det. Bobby Crocker on KOJAK from 1973-78. But the biggest role of his career was playing Patrick “Mack” MacKenzie on KNOTS LANDING from 1982-1993.
During his lengthy career, Dobson did return to daytime occasionally, playing Governor Harrison Brooks on ONE LIFE TO LIVE from 2003-04, Judge Devin Owens on THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL from 2006-07, and even stepping in as Mickey Horton on DAYS OF OUR LIVES in 2008.
Dobson is survived by his wife of 52 years, Susan, and their three children, daughter Mariah, and sons Patrick and Sean. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.
