Khalil’s Case Gets Complicated
Earlier this month, we reported that THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS’ Christel Khalil was suing her former talent agency, Mavrick Artists Agency, for mishandling her career, even going so far as to send her on an audition for Y&R, the soap she’s currently starring on!
Well, according to TheWrap TV, Mavrick has responded with claims that they never withheld any money from her aside from their 10 percent fee, and that Khalil was never sent on an audition for Y&R. “That just couldn’t have happened,” Mavrick attorney Max Sprecher told the site. “Do you think THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS is so stupid that their casting office would have scheduled such an audition? It wasn’t an audition it was a submission.”
Essentially, Mavrick is claiming that it was simply an oversight as agents and their assistants submit clients for a great number of jobs as quickly as possible so as to beat out the competition. They’re also disappointed that Khalil chose to file a public case against them instead of entering into private arbitration per AFTRA rules. But now that the dispute is public, Mavrick has released their own statement in their defense, which you can read here.
