McVicar’s A Survivor

Almost three months after his son’s tragic death, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL veteran Daniel McVicar (ex-Clarke) has found a somewhat surprising way to reconnect with him: appearing in Italy’s L’ISOLA DEI FAMOSI — a celebrity version of SURVIVOR. The B&B veteran had already been in talks to join the reality show’s cast when he received the tragic news that his son, Hank, 22, had been killed in a car accident on January 3. After thoughtful consideration, McVicar, still in mourning, decided to go ahead and partake in the program. “This gives me, in a way, a chance to go camping [again] with my son,” he tells Soaps In Depth. “Hank and I hiked [California’s] Mount Whitney together and also went up Half Dome at Yosemite. The wilderness at Yosemite was a favorite place of mine to go with him. Hank was a fine camping companion and a guy who knew how to both hike and keep on hiking.”

While the show airs in Italy, McVicar says that the program isn’t actually set in the country. “We don’t go to an Italian island,” he clarifies. “[We’re] doing it from Honduras. Unlike America’s version of the show, we shoot in real time.”

Is McVicar concerned that the cameras may be too intrusive as he continues the private mourning process? “I’m hoping to build a place of peace [where] the cameras will leave me alone,” he says. “It’s very strange that this show is in front of me. It was in my stream before [Hank’s] accident and it’s in my path after it. It’s there for a reason and I’m going to find out what it is.”
