Rowell’s Soap-Themed Sitcom Is “RUTHLESS”

Tags:

Victoria Rowell (ex-Dru, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS) is developing one of her novels into a TV show. “THE RICH & THE RUTHLESS is an original comedy pilot for primetime,” the Emmy-nominated actress tells Soaps In Depth. “It’s inspired by all of my theater, TV and film experience. It’s an amalgamation of behind-the-scenes [in show business] everywhere!”

Supporters of the actress and her latest venture can get in on the action by visiting the program’s Kickstarter page. “We’re hoping to reach our [financial] goal by the end of [August],” the actress/author says.

While the three-time Emmy nominee is mostly known for her dramatic chops, Rowell’s also done a great deal of comedy, which will come in handy for her portrayal of RUTHLESS’ Calysta Jeffries, a popular soap opera actress who is also her serial’s creator! “People want to laugh right now,” says Rowell, who describes her new show as “Soapdish meets THE OFFICE meets 30 ROCK. It’s about the lives our characters lead and a look at life backstage on a soap opera.”

Joining Rowell in the cast are familiar faces from Y&R including Brenda Epperson (ex-Ashley), Davetta Sherwood (ex-Lily), and Ben Guillory (who played Walter, Dru’s dad). “We also have some surprises coming, too,” teases Rowell, “including some real explosive ones!”
