B&B’s Karla Mosley Reveals How Her Baby Girl Has Changed Her Life (EXCLUSIVE)

Tags:

Lately, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL’s Karla Mosley (Maya) and her partner, John Rogers, are fairly tired, not to mention more than a little bit obsessed. With a sweet bundle of 14-week-old cuteness named Aurora Imani in their lives, can you blame them? “I never thought I would be one of those moms who takes pictures every five seconds, but I can’t help it,” the actress confessed to Soaps In Depth. “I’m having a great time.” Mosley has taken to motherhood without missing a beat and says it’s felt like a really natural transition, despite all the changes. “I must have had a lot of children in a past life,” she joked, “or maybe I’ve just learned a lot from watching my sister and so many of my friends that are incredible parents. Plus, she’s been a pretty easy kid so far, which I’m grateful for!”

With help from a team of doulas, Mosley gave birth to Aurora at home on August 17. “It was amazing,” she recalled. “No drugs, just surrounded by these four amazing women and John. It was a powerful experience.” The actress admits it felt a little surreal to hold her daughter in her arms for the first time. “It was almost like an out-of-body experience,” she noted. “Of course, I was so in love with her, but the emotion I felt even more was wonder. It was like, ‘Who is this person, and when are her real parents going to come pick her up?’ After about a week or two, it was like, ‘Okay… I think we’re in this for life, kid!’”

Of course, there were a few hiccups to be had in the early weeks — or “burps” may be the operative word! “The biggest challenge we had was probably gas!” Mosley quipped. “There were times when it would just be tears for three or four hours because her belly hurt so much. That was really tricky.”

Mosley and her family have been coping with a more serious heartache in recent months. Just prior to Aurora’s birth, the actress’ beloved niece, Lilia (daughter of Mosley’s younger sister, Alexandra) passed away at the age of 5 following a long illness. Her memorial service was held the same day Mosley gave birth. “It’s been a really challenging time,” she acknowledged. “I’ve certainly been thinking a lot about the connection between grief and joy and being able to hold both things at the same time, because we’re still grieving.”

In October, the actress traveled back to the East Coast to be with her mother and sister, a trip that was originally planned so that Lilia could meet her baby cousin. “It’s funny, because Lilia was obsessed with the moon. She’d always ask, ‘Where’s the moon? Where’s the moon?’ And Aurora’s name has to do with the sun… so I think there’s a connection between those two little spirits. Aurora is certainly helping us to heal.”

If anything, Mosley is reminded daily to appreciate life to its fullest, which may explain why she and John decided on a last-minute lark to attend a Beyonce/Jay-Z concert in Los Angeles in early October — with Aurora in tow! “We only live 10 minutes from the concert venue, so the day of, John said, ‘Let me just run to the box office to see if there are any tickets left,’” she confided.

He returned with tickets in hand. “We decided we would either succeed and it would be an amazing evening, or Aurora would melt down and we’d never talk about that night again,” Mosley recalled with a laugh. Turns out, the trip to see “Sasha Fierce” and her other half worked out beautifully! “Aurora wore noise-canceling headphones and slept through the whole thing. Now, not only do John and I have this very special memory, but Aurora will be able to say that Beyonce was her first concert!” In our book, those are pretty good bragging rights for a baby!
