Y&R’s Beth Maitland Defends Traci’s New Storyline From Internet Haters

It’s been a while since Traci Abbott had a storyline of her own on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS, something aside from being the rock to keep the Abbott family together as they deal with whatever dramas they’re all going through. However, Beth Maitland found herself defending her alter ego’s newest storyline from some rude people on the internet who were not fans. When one Twitter user commented that she didn’t like Traci making a fool of herself with Cane, things turned ugly, and Maitland stepped in to shut it down. “I respect everyone’s right to their opinion,” she declared. “I respect tolerance, kindness, an open mind, and acceptance. I don’t respect meanness so much. I do what they write. I’m an actor. And I love representing real women with true hearts.”

Matiland’s Y&R castmate, Eric Braeden (Victor) even entered the fray, tweeting: “Beth Maitland is one of the kindest people I have ever met and a damned good actress!” So she quickly assured her fellow daytime vet that he wasn’t the only one rushing to her defense on social media. “Thank you, my dear,” she responded. “All is well. Just a little fuss over name-calling and misunderstandings. I feel very championed and loved. And am a little tougher than I look.”

Unfortunately, Cane and Lily have some extremely… passionate fans who don’t like it when their favorite couple is split up. And while Traci initially helped offer Cane some advice on how to win back Lily’s heart, she has also used this for inspiration for a new novel which has led to her fantasizing about Cane sending some of that affection her way. But some fans seem to forget that behind those Twitter handles are real people with real feelings. Still, Maitland is trying to stay positive and is looking towards the future. “I’ve been tweeting what this story means to me,” she explained. “Possibility. For Traci, Cane, and for everyone. We all deserve to be cared for and that can come from surprising places.”

While she wouldn’t say exactly where Traci’s story was going, the actress is excited to be a part of it, especially given the recent addition of the period fantasy sequences. “I am loving it,” she enthused. “I was raised on ’40s movies and it’s fantastic to be in one. I also love the creativity [headwriter] Josh Griffith is bringing across the board. Light and dark are coming your way. He is gifted and dedicated to putting the ship on course. So grateful to be a part of this!”
