Can Devon Be Saved on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS? — Bryton James Speaks Out (EXCLUSIVE)

Tags:

Devon has been getting some help on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS, but will it be enough to pull him out of his downward spiral? Losing Hilary and their unborn child shattered his world completely, and it may be beyond repair. “He’s not only trying to numb himself to his own feelings,” Bryton James explained to Soaps In Depth, “but he’s trying to distance himself as much as possible from the invasiveness of the people who are trying to make sure that he’s okay.”

Cane and Nate’s constant interference in his life has been driving Devon up the wall, though he did agree to Ana’s suggestion that he speak to a professional. But will that be enough to help him deal with the grief he’s still experiencing on a daily basis? “From the time of the accident to the hospital to the funeral, he was around a lot of people and a lot of support,” James admitted. “But then everyone went back to their daily lives while Devon is left by himself to deal with his feelings. He is the one who has to wake up in his empty bed every day and face the reality alone.”

And worse still, even if Devon does manage to get his act together, it could all come crashing down around him when Lily is eventually released from prison. “Devon hasn’t completely forgiven her,” the actor revealed. “One day, she will be able to come home and live the rest of her life with her family and her husband, and see her children grow up. But because of Lily — in Devon’s mind — he won’t get to experience any of that! He gets frustrated that his family doesn’t understand that. They’re not being sensitive to his feelings. Devon is having a particularly hard time, particularly with Nate, because he operated on Hilary. And in Devon’s mind, that played a part in what happened to her.”

Speaking with the therapist does seem to be helping Devon explore his grief, but taking the anti-anxiety meds could begin to pose a problem if he comes to rely on them too much. Previews James: “He’s going to be taking himself down a road where the numbing of his feelings turns into something that he really doesn’t control too well!”
