Daniel Goddard Says Goodbye to THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS

Tags:

After 13 years playing Cane Ashby, Daniel Goddard has left THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS, and as his final episode of the soap aired, he took to social media to share a heartfelt message with his loyal fans. “My dearest friends, I just wanted to let you know that on today’s episode of Y&R, Cane’s journey finally comes to an end. I wanted to tell you for a while that today is my last air date but I really just didn’t know how. Thirteen years ago, I stepped foot onto one of television’s most iconic shows and for this Aussie dreamer who set out in search of something greater than himself… I suddenly felt like I was home. We had some good times, didn’t we? We laughed together, cried together and loved together, but through it… we were always there for each other because that’s what families do. I love each and every one of you, you will never truly know how much you mean to me. So, as Kristoff would say, ‘Stay looking up!’”

Goddard announced that he was exiting Y&R in late October, and as the news spread, fans were in just as much disbelief as he was at the unexpected turn of events. “I still can’t believe it,” he mused on Instagram on Nov. 13. “I loved that show with every ounce of my being. Thank you to each and every fan who has reached out to me and shared their love, support, and disbelief. I love you like family. And to all the cast and crew from Y&R who have called and texted their support… you are so very loved.”

The week before his final episode was aired, the actor shared a set-side selfie with Jess Walton (Jill) and Tristan Rogers (Colin) as he prepared to say goodbye to his daytime family. “Today is my second-to-last episode on Y&R and what a ride it has been,” he exclaimed. “Jess and Tristan, I couldn’t appreciate you any more. It has been such a joy and pleasure. We told some pretty awesome stories together, didn’t we! And to all the fans that have been on this wonderful journey with us over the years… thank you, you are loved!”

Goddard made his debut in 2007 and his pairing with Christel Khalil’s Lily Winters became one of Y&R’s most popular supercouples. Sadly, Khalil dropped to recurring status with the soap and the couple’s marriage hit the skids as Lily was sent to prison. The actors made their final appearance together on Y&R in the Oct. 25 episode when Lily paid another visit to Genoa City.

Cane came back to Y&R even after the soap had killed him off, so since he’s still alive, there’s every possibility that he could be back again one day. Stay tuned to see what happens next and for more on your favorite Y&R stars, keep reading the CBS edition of Soaps In Depth magazine.
