Y&R’s Melody Thomas Scott Tells All in a New Memoir

Tags:

Soap opera fans rejoice! After seven —yes, seven — years of writing her memoirs, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS star Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki) will be publishing Always Young and Restless in summer of 2020! “Well I guess the cat is out of the bag now,” the actress tweeted after the big news broke. “Can’t wait for all of you to read it! Now you all know what I’ve been up to!” Her memoir covers her entire career; from acting as a child, to her first big screen role in Hitchcock’s Marnie, to growing up in Hollywood, to family issues, and of course her career as Nikki Reed Newman on Y&R.

After Scott completed her manuscript, her very first readers were her three daughters, Elizabeth and Alexandra Scott, and Jennifer Scott Christensen.”I let my daughters read the book before it went anywhere,”  Scott told TV Insider. “I said,’Okay guys, before I submit anything I will let you — and only you — read it. If there’s stuff in there that bothers you, now’s your chance to let me know.’ They did not nix anything, but ever since they have treated me differently.

“I mean, they’ve always treated me beautifully,” Scott continued. “I’m so lucky. They are very loving daughters. But they were in such shock that I was able to live through everything I reveal in the book. They’re in awe now. They’re like, ‘Oh Mom, I am so sorry you went through all this!’ I have never discussed any of it with them, so they were really stunned. There is a new respect for me in their eyes… respect that I am alive. Reliving it all was the worst part, and that’s what made me put the skids on the book early on. It was going well at first, and then suddenly I was like, ‘I can’t. I am not ready to do this.’ So there were delays, but then I also thought,’God, I better get on this! What if I drop dead before this thing is finished?’ That got me over the hump, and I was fine after that. Odd things motivate me.”

Scott’s Always Young and Restless, published by Diversion Books, will hit bookstores next summer. Keep checking back as more details are released regarding the tome, including an official release date, and for more Y&R news, keep reading the CBS edition of Soaps In Depth Magazine!
