Michelle Stafford Couldn’t Be Prouder of Daughter Natalia’s Run for Student Council

Tags:

Parents are always proud of their kids, but sometimes they want to shout certain achievements from the rooftops… or at least over social media! THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS star Michelle Stafford (Phyllis) simply had to sing her daughter Natalia’s praises after she decided to run for student council. “That’s the funny thing about being a mom,” the actress mused on Instagram. “You learn so much more about yourself if you are willing.

“My daughter started a new school this year,” Stafford explained. “It has been very rough. We have been working very had to catch her up. She has really stepped up and I have been quite proud of her. She decided to run for student council. I mean, the balls on this kid. She’s been attending this school for only seven weeks, but decided to run for student council.”

Naturally, being a supportive mom, Stafford was happy to help Natalia prepare her campaign. “We worked on her speech last night and her poster (that I put in these folders),” she explained. “She gave her speech in front of the entire school today. She Face Timed me after school to tell me she had lost. I told her (of course) it doesn’t matter if you lost. I mean, the thing is, I don’t know how many people (even grown-ups) starting a new school or a new job or a new anything that would be comfortable running for anything and standing in front of a few hundred people and giving a speech about themselves.

“As a society, we are so stuck on ‘the win,’ Stafford added. “It’s silly, really, because a win without much work is meaningless and a loss with tons of work is filled with lessons. And of course, a win with a lot of work is quite sweet. It’s the lessons that build a character. It’s the lessons we learn that make us who we are. We are all special, every single one of us.”

Despite Natalia’s loss, Stafford couldn’t be more impressed that her daughter even put herself out there in the first place. “I was so incredibly proud of her,” she gushed. “Damn. Like I said, the confidence and drive in this girl is spectacular. I can honestly say I didn’t have that kind of confidence at nine years old. No school in the world is able to ‘teach’ that. You got it or you learn it by getting beaten up in life and getting back up on your feet again.

“It’s not about the win and it’s not about the loss,” she continued. “Which I told her. It’s about doing it, doing it as well as you can, and the experience. School is setting our kids up for the future. I think this little lady has quite a bright one! She teaches me every day.”

Well, Natalia certainly would’ve gotten our vote! Stafford has every reason to be proud, and we can’t wait to see what amazing things her daughter accomplishes in the future (and her son, Jackson, too!).
