Sharon Case Said the Sweetest Goodbye to Y&R Castmate Gina Tognoni

Fans weren’t the only ones who shared how much they’ll miss seeing Gina Tognoni as Phyllis on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS. Her co-stars also took to social media to let her know how much she’ll be missed and to wish her well in the future. In particular, Sharon Case (Sharon) opened up on Instagram. “Decades ago I knew you only from watching you on daytime,” she revealed. “You were always one of the ‘queens’ back then when I was just trying to make my way into this genre. We met once briefly at Radio City and you were always ‘the one to beat’ at the Emmys. Well, you always took the trophy, and rightly so… even to this day!

“When I learned that I’d be working with you on Y&R I was…” Case continued, adding a shocked emoji to explain her emotions at the time. “This became a lovely friendship and working relationship of my tenure at Y&R! You touched my soul… You respect others and your craft. You are a complex artist and I learned so much from you. I don’t know how to say goodbye. I can only reverently say, ‘Bravo!'”

Case joined the cast of Y&R back in 1994, after a one-year stint as Debbie on AS THE WORLD TURNS. During that time, Tognoni was playing Kelly Cramer on ABC sudser ONE LIFE TO LIVE, but it was after joining GUIDING LIGHT in 2004 to play a recast Dinah that she began racking up the Daytime Emmy Award trophies that Case spoke of. Of course, Case is no slouch in the acting department and has racked up many Emmy noms of her own, taking home the trophy in 1999 for Outstanding Supporting Actress. (Thankfully, the two friends never found themselves competing in the same category at the same time!)

With talent like hers, Tognoni should be back on our screens very soon, and like Case, we look forward to seeing where she performs next! For more on your favorite Y&R stars, keep reading Soaps In Depth magazine.
