THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS’ Tammin Sursok Opens up About Her Difficult Pregnancy

Tags:

In September, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS alum Tammin Sursok (ex-Colleen) shared the blessed news that she was pregnant with her second child. At the time, she alluded to the difficulty she’d had conceiving this baby, and now has done a vlog with her husband, Sean McEwen, to reveal just how difficult it’s been in the hopes of offering support to other parents going through the same struggles. In their first video, the pair discuss the scary moment early on in the pregnancy when they thought they’d lost the baby.

“When we were about 10 weeks, I remember being asleep and in my dream I was like, swimming,” Sursok recalled. “And I woke up and I remember sitting there and just going, ‘Why are my legs wet?’ I woke up and I turned the light on and I was covered in blood. From my torso down was just covered in blood.”

McEwen adds that his first thought was making sure his wife was okay, and then called the doctor. “So we called our doctor and they said, ‘You are probably having a miscarriage. If you’re losing that much blood, you’re losing the pregnancy,’” Sursok revealed. “So we went in and they did the ultrasound and the baby was kicking and having a blast in there.”

The parents learned that what happened was when the fetus moved from the uterine wall to develop its own placenta, it tore the wall of her uterus and caused the bleeding. “It’s like a hemorrhage of some kind,” Sursok explained. “So the bad thing about that was that if the bleed became too big, that the baby would have been taken with it.”

Thankfully, that didn’t happen and Sursok is just under doctors orders to take it easy for the duration of her pregnancy so she doesn’t strain herself and potentially hurt the baby. There have been other roadbumps in this particular pregnancy, but they’re keeping them for future vlogs. “For me, I wish that I had a support network when I was going through this,” Sursok confided. “I spent a lot of time online googling ‘bleeding while pregnant.’ So I think that it’s our duty, really, to share our story. I think there’s a lot of people going through struggles with pregnancy and I think it’s important for them to feel like they’re not alone and they’re not isolated in their story.”

You can watch Sursok and McEwen share their entire story in the video they posted to her YouTube page right here.
