The YOUNG & THE RESTLESS’ Kate Linder “Honored” to be Pride Parade Grand Marshall
The 36th Annual Long Beach Lesbian and Gay Pride Parade will be held this Sunday, May 19, and the organization chose THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS star Kate Linder (Esther) to be their Grand Parade Marshall. “I am so proud and honored to be named this year’s Grand Marshal of the Annual Log Beach Lesbian and Gay Pride Parade,” she said. “This is a wonderful community and I will always fight for LGBT+ rights!”
Linder has spent much of her spare time as a volunteer and advocate for the LGBT+ community throughout the years. It was her work as a founding member of TV Cares (the Television Academy’s defunct AIDS awareness and fundraising committee), as well as participating in numerous fundraising and raising awareness activities of discrimination, harassment, and HIV/AIDS issues, that made her a stellar nominee for the Grand Marshall of this year’s parade.
Linder has portrayed Esther Valentine on Y&R for over 37 years. What started as a one line, one day walk-on role turned into a career on the number one rated soap for almost four decades. In 2008, the actress received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Linder has also had roles in numerous movies, including Hysteria, Garry Marshall’s Mother’s Day and the upcoming Book of Leah and Loaners.
The parade kicks off at 10:30 am at Ocean Boulevard and Linder Avenue in Long Beach. It travels west onto Ocean Blvd, and ends at the curve of Alamitos Avenue. This year’s theme is “A Million Moments of Pride, Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Stonewall.” For more information about the parade, please visit their site.
