Bryan Dattilo Opens up About Returning to DAYS OF OUR LIVES

Tags:

With Kate dying from Orpheus’ poison, it’s only right that Bryan Dattilo returns to DAYS OF OUR LIVES as her son, Lucas, to help play out all the ensuing drama, even if he’s still locked up in prison.

“It’s just a week or two,” Dattilo told Soap Opera Digest of his brief stint. “When I was there, I loved it. I was like, ‘Sweet.’ It’s a good couple of weeks.”

Especially since this run gave the actor the opportunity to work with different castmates, particularly George DelHoyo, who plays Orpheus, the villain responsible for his mother’s death. “I got to [explore] the whole angle of being in prison with Orpheus,” Dattilo explained. “I loved the new angle on the character and working with different people was awesome.”

Having pled guilty to kidnapping after his ill-advised abduction of Sami to play hero and frame EJ for the crime, Lucas has been off the canvas and cooling his heels in prison. And along with the new angles to the character he has been playing since 1993, Dattilo was also able to give Lucas a whole new look!

“It was fun to grow my hair out and grow a goatee,” he declared. “It was a different look, a different vibe. It suits the character and it marks a new beginning for me. It’s a transition from who Lucas used to be to who he is now, because you can’t go through [a stint in] prison and be the same person.

“It’s kind of a fun change,” Dattilo confided. “It’s not the same character anymore. I tried to do things I haven’t done before, acting-wise. Hopefully, it was justified by the circumstances Lucas was going through.”

While this particular stint on DAYS will be brief, keep checking back here at SoapsInDepth.com for future updates on when we might see Lucas again… or when he might be released from prison to return home to Salem once more!
