There’s a new face headed to Days of Our Lives: The soap announced that newcomer Kennedy Garcia — on her birthday, no less! — will make her debut in the role of Felicity starting next week. The 20-year-old also shared the exciting news of her upcoming gig on social media by reposting the show’s announcement.

“It’s my birthday! And huge news! I am moving to Salem!” Garcia wrote. “Ok, not really… but starting next week, you can call me Felicity and find me over on DAYS. I can’t wait for you to meet her and see how her storyline unfolds! I’ve been filming for the last six months and have been having so much fun! Please join me on my adventures!”

Garcia’s character will likely be involved in Chanel and Johnny’s storyline, as Chanel mentioned Felicity recently as a Sweet Bits regular with special needs who aspires to be a baker someday.

While DAYS marks the actress and model’s first major role, Garcia previously appeared in the short films Brownies and Bamboozled as well as a handful of YouTuber Dhar Mann’s skits, which portray the problems within modern society. The Tennessee native — who was diagnosed with Down syndrome hours after her birth and beat leukemia at just three years old — began her professional career as a child model after being discovered by the American Girl brand. Becoming the first model with Down syndrome to work with that company, Garcia went on to do campaigns for Justice, Claire’s, Disney, and many others. Last year, she appeared in McDonald’s Super Bowl commercial.

Garcia is also a sought-after public speaker, who frequently makes appearances to talk about her journey and teach people how to be friends with someone with a disability. According to Garcia’s agency, Paloma Model and Talent, she is the first actress with Down syndrome to have a storyline in any U.S. soap opera. “We are so proud of you!” the agency shared in a post touting Garcia’s new role. “Watch for her starting next week.”
