Will DAYS OF OUR LIVES Be Renewed?

Last week, DAYS OF OUR LIVES wrapped production on its 56th season — which may or may not be the last for NBC’s sole remaining soap. The cast and crew are now on an indefinite hiatus as they wait for word from the network whether or not they will be given the green light for another year. But there is some encouraging news on the horizon!

According to TVLine, sources have confirmed that negotiations are currently underway between NBC and Sony Pictures Television (which produces DAYS) to bring the soap back for another season. In a second report, Deadline adds that according to their sources, insiders are optimistic that all will be worked out.

The powers that be at DAYS seem to be hoping for the best: Even though the show’s final episodes for the current season were shot on April 16, the writing staff has been hard at work plotting out future scripts and storylines! “Everyone is proceeding under the assumption that the show will be back,” an inside source told TVLine.

Another indication that sand will continue to flow through the DAYS hourglass, per Deadline, is the fact that producers have been making if/come deals with several key cast members in anticipation of being greenlit for another season.

The soap’s current deal with the network extends to September. But since DAYS has been taping episodes months in advance for years, they already have material to last up to that point in the can. So as long as negotiations don’t drag out for months on end, viewers need not worry about seeing a lapse in what unfolds on the air.

Our fingers are crossed that there are no snafus during negotiations and that we get much, much more time in Salem! Be sure to check back with SoapsInDepth.com for further news on this developing story.
