It had been five months since Alley Mills had appeared on GENERAL HOSPITAL when she won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Performer for her stint as Heather Webber, but shortly after taking home that golden trophy, the actress is back on screen!
After recovering her memories, Esme visited her father’s gravesite and in the Dec. 29 episode, sees her mother behind bars. “Frank [Valentini, GH’s executive producer] told me that Heather had to stay in prison for a while so that people didn’t think I could just run all over upstate New York and kill people,” Mills joked to Soap Opera Digest. “But he had told me that he wanted me to come back after I was so rudely arrested and confronted by Laura in the hall.”
Mills was excited to reprise the role, though admitted that it would be difficult to play full-time. “It was really nice to have a little break from her psyche, though,” the actress confided. “Every once in a while my granddaughter runs lines with me and I think I scare her because Heather is pretty intense! But what I love about Heather is that she’s an overcomer, she’s a survivor. I love that part of it. I love to slip back into, ‘How is she going to do this? How is she going to help her daughter?’ And the darker part is that she gets so excited [at the idea that] her daughter is as bad as her!”
And despite Heather being in prison, Esme’s visit isn’t the last viewers will be seeing of the psycho. In the new year, there will be new appearances… but hopefully still from behind bars! “It’s just a great group over there,” Mills declares of the GH cast and crew before teasing, “and I have more [episodes] to shoot in January. I’m looking forward to it!”
