Anthony Geary Pays Heartfelt Tribute to the Late Sonya Eddy

Tags:

Soap fans were stunned when Sonya Eddy passed away on Dec. 19, 2022, and her GENERAL HOSPITAL castmates and friends filled social media with heartfelt tributes and memories. And Anthony Geary opened up about losing his dear friend who played Epiphany to his Luke in an E-mail sent to Soap Opera Digest.

“Sonya was the light that banished darkness,” he said. “Her smile, her lusty laugh, her personal warmth, and open joy held the power to kick the blues out the door and down the block. To work with Sonya was an utter and complete joy. I smiled every time I saw her. Every time.

“She had the extraordinary ability to banish the blues and make room for you to bask in her sweetness and light until you found your own,” the GH legend continued. “I loved rolling around in the cozy freedom of Sonya’s laughter. Sonya. Sweet Sonya.”

Geary went on to list some more aspects of Eddy that gave everyone a reason to love her dearly. “An unforgettable talent with a glorious singing voice that I didn’t get to hear nearly enough of, and a raucous sense of humor I could never grow tired of,” he expressed. “A personality gifted by the gods and a smile that could move craggy mountains of pain and anguish and make room for the gentleness and blessings of her beautiful, generous spirit.

“I am so sad you were called away while still so young,” Geary added, “but I am grateful to have known you, to have worked with you, laughed with you, and loved you. Thank you, Sonya, for your talent, your warmth, your laughter, and your ability to share your great capacity for joy with those less blessed. Missing you, missing a world that includes you, and with so much love and admiration I am forever your fan, Tony Geary.”
