Cameron Mathison Opens up About Joining GENERAL HOSPITAL

Tags:

Fans aren’t the only ones thrilled that Cameron Mathison is returning to the ABC Daytime family now that he’s joining the cast of GENERAL HOSPITAL! “Almost 10 years after ALL MY CHILDREN went off the air, I am so excited to be joining GH this summer!” the actor exclaimed on Instagram. “I was a member of the ABC family for over 15 years and soon I’ll be back!”

Mathison is most famous for playing Ryan Lavery on AMC, a role he portrayed from January 1998 until the soap’s unfortunate cancellation in 2011. And during that run, he earned two Daytime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actor, in 2002 and 2005. The news of Mathilson’s casting on GH broke back on April 5, but there are still no details as to exactly when he will begin airing on the soap or what character he’ll be playing. (Fan speculation has been running rampant!) “Incredibly grateful to [GH executive producer] Frank Valentini and the writers at GH for including me on such an iconic show,” Mathison said.

After AMC ended, Mathison went on to work as a freelance correspondent for GOOD MORNING AMERICA and then signed on full-time and covered events like The Oscars, Grammys, Golden Globes, American Music Awards, and many more. He then moved on to work for ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT, and more recently co-hosted the Hallmark Channel talk show HOME AND FAMILY with Debbie Matenopoulos.

Mathison also continued acting, with roles on shows like DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, HOT IN CLEVELAND, and DROP DEAD DIVA. In addition, he starred in many Hallmark movies like The Christmas Ornament, Very, Very, Valentine, and A Summer to Remember. Not to mention his role as Mike Kingston in the series of Murder, She Baked Hallmark movies alongside DAYS OF OUR LIVES’ Alison Sweeney (Sami). But fans of those romantic confections need not worry. “I feel like a kid on Christmas,” Mathison declared, “as I’ll also continue making Hallmark movies and continue to be part of that family as well. So, so excited… thank you!”

Mathison closed with, “More details to come,” so keep checking back at SoapsInDepth.com for additional details and updates as new information is released about his GH debut!
