What Happened to Carlos on GENERAL HOSPITAL
Carlos on GENERAL HOSPITAL may have been a fan-favorite character, but some viewers may never forgive him for what he did! The character first appeared in September 2013 and was played by actor Jeffrey Vincent Parise right up until his violent end in May 2015… and another violent end in 2016!
Carlos Rivera relocated from Puerto Rico to Port Charles in order to continue working for the Jerome family when they set up operations there. While working to help Julian Jerome take over Sonny Corinthos‘ territory, Carlos also hoped to rekindle his relationship with Sabrina Santiago. She was happily involved in a relationship with Patrick Drake, so he tried to get her to question his feelings for her. And when Patrick’s presumed-dead wife, Robin, interrupted Sabrina’s wedding day, Carlos was proven right as Patrick soon returned to her. Heartbroken, Sabrina turned to Carlos for comfort.
But just as things were looking up romantically, business reared its ugly head as Carlos was held hostage by Sonny and Sean, intending to kill him as a message to Julian. Carlos claimed to be the half brother of Sonny’s late wife, Lily Rivera, which kept him alive as Sonny tried to find out if it was true. Carlos managed to escape, but was shot in the struggle and went to Sabrina for help. As she hid him in her apartment, Carlos learned she was pregnant. Since Sabrina feared Patrick would accuse her of using the baby to break up him and Robin, Carlos stepped in and claimed to be the babydaddy. Ultimately, however, Sabrina came clean with Patrick and sent Carlos on his way.
Carlos also found himself caught between Julian and Ava Jerome as the siblings both used him to keep secrets against each other. Carlos tried to stay loyal to Ava but as the evidence piled up against him, he wanted to reveal that she had ordered the hit on A.J. Quartermaine. Furious, Ava threatened to harm Sabrina’s unborn child if he breathed a word. When Sabrina was in a car accident and gave birth prematurely, Carlos thought Ava had carried out her threat and confessed to A.J.’s murder. However, he was later released when it came out that Sonny was actually the killer.
Returning to work for Julian, Carlos soon learned that they were all working for Luke Spencer. Under Luke’s orders, Carlos shot Ava and left her for dead. Sabrina once again hid Carlos but when the cops found her, he insisted she was innocent, claiming he’d held her hostage. Julian ordered Carlos to kill Duke Lavery, and after carrying out the hit, Carlos went to Sabrina for help escaping Port Charles before the law caught up with him. She refused to help, and he went on the run. But Duke’s love, Anna Devane, caught up with him and shot him dead.
Anna was haunted by what she’d done, but months later, Carlos resurfaced very much alive at Sabrina’s place. She was pregnant with his child after sleeping with him while hiding him from the cops but wanted nothing to do with him. Still, Carlos convinced her to leave Port Charles with him and delivered the baby while on the run. Eventually, Sonny tracked Carlos down at a convent and forced him to return to Port Charles to face justice for Duke’s murder. Carlos managed to escape the prison van and called Julian for help. But when he arrived, Julian stabbed Carlos and pushed him off the docks into the water. His body was later found and his death finally confirmed.
