Charles Shaughnessy Cast on GENERAL HOSPITAL!

A very familiar face is coming to Port Charles! Charles Shaughnessy is joining the cast of GENERAL HOSPITAL in a brand-new contract role! According to Soap Opera Digest, he will debut in September, but that is all the information that is currently available. Looks like GH is keeping mum on these casting details just as they have been for Cameron Mathison’s character!

Shaughnessy will be best known to soap fans for his role of Shane Donovan on NBC sudser DAYS OF OUR LIVES, a role he played from 1984-92 and he has continued to resurface for the occasional appearance in the years since. Though the actor is probably most recognizable for starring opposite Fran Drescher as Maxwell Sheffield in the long-running CBS sitcom THE NANNY. He can currently be seen in the second season of Passionflix’s popular series DRIVEN.

This isn’t the first time that Shaughnessy has appeared on GH — back in 1984, the British actor played the short-term role of Holly Sutton’s cousin, Alistair Crawford. It’s unlikely, however, that he would be returning to reprise that role given that Emma Samms is still struggling with the effects of long COVID and has been unable to return to GH to continue telling the tale of Holly’s mysterious kidnapping.

Fan speculation has already been running wild, casting him as everyone from a Jeff Webber recast to Anna’s new boss/love interest. So keep checking back at SoapsInDepth.com for more information on Shaughnessy joining the cast, and keep watching GH to see how he fits into the canvas!
