Emma Samms Opens Up About Finding Love Again
October was a big month for Emma Samms — and not just because the beloved daytime icon has reprised her role of GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Holly Sutton Scorpio! Ten days before her October 19 return to GH, Samms celebrated one year of wedded bliss with her husband, British television presenter Simon McCoy!
“It’s our wedding anniversary tomorrow,” the glowing actress told GH co-star Maurice Benard (Sonny) during their interview on his YouTube series, State of Mind. “One year.”
Finding love again in her late 50s was not something Samms ever expected, she confessed. Having previously been married three times, the 62-year-old actress figured she was past the point of having a meaningful romantic partnership. “For the last 20 years, I’ve lived on my own,” she explained. “I’ve been a single mother. Very happily so. But a year ago, I got married. And I never thought I’d get married again.”
Samms — who in addition to GH, is known to audiences for her run as Fallon on primetime sudsers DYNASTY and THE COLBYS — was previously married to Bansi Nagji from 1991-92, Tim Dillon from 1994-95, and John Holloway from 1996-2003. She and Holloway have two children, Beatrice and Cameron. McCoy has a son, Max, from his first marriage, and separated from his second wife, Victoria Graham, in 2019.
Samms wanted those watching to know that love has a way of finding you even when you aren’t expecting it. “It actually can happen,” she insisted with a smile. “Even if you’re convinced that you’re better off on your own — and some people are — but there might be somebody out there that just happens to be exactly the right match for you. And who’s kind and willing to adapt to your quirks. And his quirks aren’t so tricky that it’s not in any way an effort to adapt to them. And you suddenly find yourself thinking, ‘My goodness, so there is such a thing as a happy, easy, comfortable relationship for me.’ I never thought I would find that.”
The couple, who live in the picturesque Cotswolds countryside in southern England, acknowledged their first anniversary on Twitter with romantic his-and-hers posts. “One year ago today,” Samms wrote, sharing a photo from their wedding day. “And this lovely man still makes the effort to make me smile every day.” Retweeting his bride’s post, McCoy added that it has been “a wonderful year” being married to Samms.
