GH’s Kelly Monaco Calls Sam and Jason Endgame
On Oct. 1, 2023, Kelly Monaco celebrated her 20th anniversary playing Sam McCall on GENERAL HOSPITAL. And over those two decades, the character has been involved in a myriad of storylines and relationships. Sam is currently settled into a comfortable romance with Dante on the soap, but there are still plenty of “JaSam” fans out there who are eagerly awaiting the day Steve Burton returns to GH and Jason and Sam can finally be reunited.
“With Steve, our natural chemistry together as actors translated really well on screen,” Monaco explained to Soap Opera Digest about the couple’s popularity, “and everyone — the writers, the producers, the directors, and the actors — worked to be able to form that unconditional love that the characters had for each other.”
Throughout all the ups and downs in Jason and Sam’s relationship, the “JaSam” fans remained steadfast and loyal, insisting that the pair belonged together. And honestly, Monaco agrees with them!
“I’ve had multiple relationships on the show but ultimately, in my mind, Sam and Jason were always the end game,” the Emmy nominee declared. “In their love for each other, no affairs or other relationships or time apart or whatever could ever have come between them.
“I felt like they always would have come back to each other and I still feel for the history of the characters,” Monaco concluded. “Sam will never love anyone the way she loved Jason and I don’t think Jason will ever love anyone the way he loved Sam. Jason was the love of her life.”
Unfortunately, Jason is currently presumed dead after being caught in a cave-in on Cassadine Island (and portrayer Steve Burton is back at DAYS OF OUR LIVES playing Harris right now), so a “JaSam” reunion doesn’t appear to be in the cards right now.
