GH’s Tabyana Ali Reveals She Almost Gave up Acting
After joining the cast of GENERAL HOSPITAL in March 2022, Tabyana Ali found herself playing a fan-favorite character and one-half of the very popular young supercouple nicknamed “Sprina.” But only a year before her daytime debut, the young actress had actually considered giving it all up!
“I was so tired of this repetitive cycle,” Ali admitted on Soap Opera Digest’s podcast. “I remember one late night, I texted my mom and I was like, ‘I’m so sorry, I’ve gotta stop doing this. I don’t feel good doing this anymore. I know we’re not quitters. I know we keep going. I know we’ll fight and figure out ways to get over a barrier but I don’t think I can come over this barrier right now.’ And I just kept saying, ‘I’m sorry.’”
Naturally, Jacqueline Ford was more than happy to support whatever decision her daughter made, but she also wanted to make sure that she made the right decision in the end. “She called me and she was like, ‘I’m sorry,’” Ali recalled. “’I’m sorry that you’re feeling this way. I’m sorry that this is so heavy for you right now. If we need to take a break, your mental health comes first. But I really think you should think about not quitting. I think you have a gift. And I think you’re going to regret it if you stop.’”
After agreeing to think about it, Ali also credits another person with helping inspire her to keep at it, though she kept the details vague. “There was actually a moment someone was talking to me and she told me something that I really needed to hear,” she confided. “And that was actually the motivation for me to keep going, too. Besides my mother, this person was like, hitting it on the head when it came to my career and my life.
“And after I heard that, I was like, ‘Okay, I’m gonna take a breath and I’m gonna get back into it,’” Ali continued. “And after I started praying and meditating and really going through this self-healing journey, everything just started aligning for itself again. That’s when I got my first movie, the play, and then I got another movie and then GH. And it was so fast how it happened. I felt like I transformed. It was so crazy I couldn’t believe it myself.”
And there are plenty of GH viewers — and “Sprina” fans — who are glad she didn’t give up!
