Fans were excited to learn that Jane Elliot would be returning to GENERAL HOSPITAL as Tracy for the soap’s 60th anniversary and then even more thrilled to learn that this would not be a brief appearance but a long-term stint. And now it’s time to mark your calendars because the date of Tracy’s return has finally been revealed!
Soap Opera Digest is reporting that Elliot’s first air date back on GH will be on Monday, April 17, shortly after Emma Samms reprises her role as Holly Sutton on Friday, April 14. Whether the two women arriving in Port Charles at the same time is a coincidence or part of a plan, we’ll just have to wait and see!
Elliot debuted on GH back in 1978 and played the role of Tracy Quartermaine on and off over the years, earning four Daytime Emmy Award nominations and taking home the trophy for Supporting Actress in 1981. Heck, she even brought the popular character over to ABC sister soap THE CITY in 1996, though it wasn’t enough to boost ratings, and it was canceled the following year.
Although Elliot chose to retire in 2017, and Tracy was written off the soap to enjoy living happily ever after with Luke Spencer in Europe, she then continued to return for occasional visits, usually during the holidays. The actress’ last visit to Port Charles was in January and February 2022 when Tracy arrived with the tragic news that Luke had been killed in a cable car crash in Austria. She stuck around to attend Luke’s memorial service, then returned to Amsterdam to settle his affairs.
With GH ramping up to celebrate its 60th anniversary (the official date will fall on Saturday, April 1, this year), a big storyline is promised where icons of Port Charles team up to stop a legendary threat from the past. And with the good guys currently plotting to thwart Victor Cassadine’s evil scheme, it’s likely that Tracy (and Holly) are returning to help out on that front. Victor was behind Luke’s death, after all!
While many fans are still holding out hope that Tracy’s return could eventually lead to the revelation that Luke survived Victor’s attempt on his life, there’s been nothing to indicate that Anthony Geary is coming back to help celebrate GH’s 60th. But stay tuned, because you never know what twists and turns are right around the corner!
