Laura Wright Opens up About Bobbie's Life-Saving Gift on GH

Fans and friends have been mourning Jacklyn Zeman since she passed away in May. However, on GENERAL HOSPITAL, her character of Bobbie Spencer is still alive and overseas in Amsterdam dealing with her brother’s affairs. And in the July 24 episode of the soap, Carly revealed that she’d bought Kelly’s from her mother and is now the new owner of the iconic diner.

“This whole beat was written before Jackie passed away,” Laura Wright revealed in a recent issue of Soap Opera Digest. “They have not had the character of Bobbie die and Carly doesn’t inherit Kelly’s from the character, which would have been a beautiful thing, but this was a choice made a while ago by the writers.”

Carly has been forced to sell her share of the Metro Court and her home in order to pay the $5 million fine to the SEC, and has refused to let Josslyn dip into her trust fund to help her out. Discovering a tax loophole, Carly bought the deed to Kelly’s from Bobbie for one dollar, and is determined to build the restaurant up and create another successful business in Port Charles.

“When the [opportunity] comes up, it’s like, ‘Oh my God, this is absolutely perfect. I can do for Kelly’s what I did for the Metro Court. I can turn it around and make it the hottest spot on the waterfront again.’” Wright explained of her character’s decision.

Kelly’s was first introduced on GH back in 1980 as a waterfront diner with boarding rooms upstairs. It was originally owned by Paddy and Rose Kelly, but after her husband was killed, Rose left town and sold Kelly’s to Ruby Anderson. When Ruby passed away in 1999, she left Kelly’s to her niece and nephew, Luke and Bobbie. And now ownership has passed on to Carly.
