It’s hard to believe that a year has passed since General Hospital icon Jacklyn Zeman passed away after a brief battle with cancer. The soap’s emotional tribute to the legendary actress and her legacy character didn’t air until the beginning of 2024, but May 9 marks the first anniversary of Zeman’s death — and her TV daughter, Laura Wright (Carly), recently confided during a fan event just how difficult it was to say goodbye to Zeman.

According to Soap Opera Digest, Wright was asked about Bobbie’s poignant memorial during the Q&A portion of the recent Ladies of GH fan event. “We can always honor Jackie, right?” Wright told the audience. “When we did Bobbie’s death on New Year’s Eve, that was a rough week.”

Emotions were heightened by the short turnaround time: Approximately nine episodes worth of scenes were filmed in four days. “Which is good when you do those kinds of heavy scenes, then you’re not spreading it out for a couple weeks,” the GH star noted. “As intense and difficult as it was, it was done in four days. But I think everyone felt it and took it home the whole week.”

Wright added that all the performers involved were aware that the tribute was going to be a doozy. “We knew it was going to be heavy,” she said of Bobbie’s funeral. “When you walked on set, it was about Jackie. Her photo was up, the cast that was there… any other time that you would be doing anything with a cast like that, Jackie would’ve been there. So, she was in spirit.”

In fact, the cast experienced a magical moment after they wrapped. “When we all left work that day, there was a beautiful rainbow outside,” Wright revealed with a smile. “So, it was a really special day.”
