Lexi Ainsworth Reveals What’s Next After GENERAL HOSPITAL

Tags:

Fans were surprised when it was announced that Lexi Ainsworth was leaving GENERAL HOSPITAL and the role of Kristina would be recast with DAYS OF OUR LIVES alum Kate Mansi (ex-Abigail). But in a follow-up statement in a video she posted to Instagram, the actress assured fans that the decision was “mutually beneficial.”

Although Ainsworth admitted that she will miss her GH family, she’s hopeful that she will one day work with some of them again in the future. Perhaps in an upcoming project from the production company she began last year, Camden Way Productions.

“I had a lot of downtime, which caused this need to create an outlet for me to funnel my creative energy into,” she told Soap Opera Digest. “As a storyteller, I feel like it was only natural for me to go expand my talents into other parts of the industry, and I’m looking forward to continuing to do that. I have produced two films so far, and two are in production. I’m at a place in my life where I want to take control over my career and this is the way that I see myself doing that.”

Now, that’s not to say that Ainsworth is giving up acting completely to step behind the cameras. In fact, she revealed that she even went out for a role on another soap! “I actually did audition for THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS last year when they were recasting Summer,” the actress confided. “But that was for more of, like, a blonde bombshell, which I am not!”

Ainsworth took over the role of Kristina Davis in 2009 when Sonny and Alexis’ daughter was aged into a teenager. She left in 2011, returned in 2015 for a couple more years, and then again in 2018 to recur occasionally. “When I look back on my whole history on the show,” The  Emmy winner reflected, “it really comes down to the writers and the storylines that they provided like the domestic violence storyline and Kristina coming out as sexually fluid.

“I’m so lucky that the writers entrusted me with the storylines because those stories are so important,” Ainsworth added. “They’re the type of stories that I want to share, that I want to write and produce.”
